Okay, internship, really. But...holy crap, I just got off the phone with the guy from the Dworshak Reservoir, and I've been hired. I was not expecting that. I was thinking maybe an interview, then, "We'll contact you in a couple days and let you know." Not, "Congratulations, you're the one." So, come late May, I'm going to be off to Idaho (Idaho, of all places--I've never been there except on a train when I was ten, and I slept through the entire way), doing GPS and botany.
I'm excited and nervous as heck. I'll be out on my own, camping for a couple days a week, which ought to be interesting, considering that I've been camping like twice in my entire life, and never, ever by myself. And the rest of the time I'll be living in a town with a population the size of my high school, the farthest away from an urban center that I've ever lived in my life (which doesn't take much, admitedly--just a forty minute drive).
Geez, I need to call someone, talk to them about this, but it's kind of late here and I'm not entirely sure who's up. And I need to tell my dad. He might freak, and not in a good way. Heck, I'm freaking, and I'm not sure if it's in a good way. Part of me wants to call the guy back right now, and say, "No, wait, I made a mistake, I don't know if I can do this." My outdoors skills are, I admit, minimal at best. And I'll be farther away from my family than I've ever been before, away from them longer than I've ever been before.
But another part of me looks upon this as a Great Adventure, and a Perfect Opportunity touse random capitalization test out a possible career path.
Somebody pinch me, I swear I must be dreaming.
ETA: Talked with a friend from high school online, and I am now reassured that I am (probably) doing the right thing here. Also was reminded that one of our mutual friends is getting married in a little more than a month. o_O
