Dec. 31st, 2007 10:22 pmI’ll be spending the first hours of 2008 alone, and I’m glad for it, quite frankly. Aside from Christmas, I haven't had a break from work since early December and I already had my big night out last night, when a bunch of my friends from high school were in town and we got together. It was super to see everyone again, and although we keep in touch via IM and such, we’re scattered all over now — California, Nebraska, Indiana, New York…it's kind of surprising that we even manage to get together once a year.
Tomorrow is the annual New Year's Japanese Cooking Extravaganza, this year for a record 13 (!!) people. The sibs and I are kind of pissed off that all the guests are Dad's and that he is not going to be around for any of the cooking (nor has he been around for any of the housecleaning to get the place presentable to guests). So it's kind of a, "Hey, kids, prepare my dinner party!" kind of thing. The word "fucktard" was thrown around liberally earlier this evening, but I've kind of gotten to the point of accepting itthe sake helped. I'm still nervous about having enough food or, conversely, having massively ridiculous quantities of leftovers. Once I get beyond about five people, I lose any ability to figure out how much food is needed and neither of the sibs have ever done anything on this scale either. And, as we discovered last year, you actually *can* have too much sushi. I didn't think it could be done, but we managed.
Anyway, happy new year, everyone!
