bobcatmoranFor those of you who are on my f-list and are seeing this, Yuletide is a multifandom fic exchange which I have signed up for during a bout of insanity because it looked like it would be a fun way to get myself writing again.
Dear Yuletide Author,
First of all, thank you! I would be pleased as punch to get just about anything in these fandoms. The only one where I’ve really read much fanfic for is Darkwing Duck, and that was ages ago, back when it was still on the air as part of The Disney Afternoon. (god, I feel like such a dinosaur now). So no matter what you write, it will be new and exciting for me.
I’m afraid that I got pretty long-winded here, so if you looked at my requests and went, “Oooh, oooh, I have this BRILLIANT idea right now!” by all means, go with it! But if you need some additional help, keep reading.
In general...
I’m a big fan of genfic, particuarly friendship fics. Het and slash (both m/m and f/f) are okay by me, too, just keep it out of the NC-17 range. I have a tendency to skim over the hardcore stuff, and I wouldn’t want to do that to your story. ^_^ Fade-to-blacks are a Good Thing, IMO.
I love good dialogue, “missing moments” sort of stories (e.g. “What was going on at Hogwarts during the 7th HP book?”), and prequels--I love reading about what characters were up to before the canon starts. Divergent-from-canon-at-some-point stories are not a problem, although I’d prefer if you don’t do anything in the way of far-out wacky AUs (e.g. “They’re all in a band! And are super space alien elves! And I changed everyone’s gender just for the heck of it!”) Looking over the things I’ve bookmarked, I also seem to have a thing for charcters being awkward and somewhat socially inept. Humor is a plus, but not necessary.

Oh, and before I launch into specific fandoms, if you had an actual Christmas story in mind, I would be totally cool with that. Just bear in mind that I am not Christian and celebrate it as a secular holiday. Thus, I would just sort of sit there blinking in a somewhat confused fashion if you get too much into the baby Jesus side of it.
As for specific fandoms...
Time Traveler’s Wife
This book appealed to both my inner romantic and my inner science fiction nerd. It also, to me anyway, feels like it has so many more stories to tell. Among them (please don’t feel limited by these!) are: Any one of the number of unmentioned times grownup!Henry met kid!Clare, Henry teaching his younger self how to survive in unfamiliar places and times, or something with Alba—she mentions to Henry that she can sometimes control where/when she goes. How did she figure that out? Why only sometimes? Um, dang, those all have kids in them, don’t they? or teenagers...um...maybe something with Kendrick, the doctor, and figuring out the genetics of “chrono displacement order”? Quite frankly, I’d be making all sorts of happy noises no matter what you write for this. Just no breaking up the canon couples, please. I’d be okay with Clare or Henry being with someone else before they meet or even after Henry dies, but I’m not a big fan of adultry.

This was the fandom that introduced me to the concept of writing stories about TV series/movies/books/etc. and posting them on the web. As I mentioned in my request, I’m a big fan of the Fearsome Five — Bushroot, Megavolt, Liquidator, Quackerjack, and Negaduck — either individually or together as a group. I get a kick out of the monomaniacal nature of a lot of the show’s villains. I mean, how many shows can you think of where a character tries to rescue lightbulbs? That said, I honestly would love a story with any of the characters that were on the character list. When I said “Any” for characters, I was just referring to those listed, as I’m not such a big fan of F.O.W.L. or any of the other unlisted characters. I’d prefer something more action-driven than an introspective character piece (although if, like me, you fail at writing action sequences, I totally understand). If you do take this on, please keep it PG-13 or lower.
Bartimaeus Trilogy
I think I pretty well outlined what I’d prefer in my request details. If you do go the romance route, no human/djinn relationships, please. The whole interspecies thing doesn’t really work for me in this fandom. I really found the parallels our world and the world the books took place in to be fascinating. If you’d like to explore those parallels in a different era — after all, we know Bartimaeus had many masters beside Nathaniel and Ptolemy — go for it! But if you’d like to stay within the canon timeline, that’d be cool, too. I am not adverse to OCs if the situation calls for them. I’d rather see you make up a character than do some sort of convoluted, improbable plot twist to get a canon character where you need them.
Whew! I hope I didn’t intimidate you with all that! Really, so long as it’s written in the fandom I requested, I’d be happy. Please don’t tie yourself in knots trying to go with what I said. These are just suggestions, not be-all-end-all-if-you-don’t-follow-these-omg-you-will-ruin-Yuletide guidelines. Feel free to ignore this entire post if you like. And have fun!
