Nov. 21st, 2005 12:47 pmI checked out 1602 from the library yesterday. My dad saw it sitting on the coffee table and cracked up at the idea of Marvel characters in 17th-century Britain. He then proceeded to start reading it and became very confused very quickly since his exposure to the Marvel universe consists only of the Spiderman and X-Men movies.
It actually was pretty good for the most part, although I will admit that it started getting a bit stupid towards the end. And what the heck was up with all those dinosaurs?
Anyway, what really got me was reading through the mini author and artist bios on the back flap and seeing the phrase, "[Neil] Gaiman lives outside Minneapolis." That came as an enormous surprise. Assuming that's not referring to Minneapolis, Kansas, it could even mean that he lives in the same town as me (although I doubt it--my hometown is home to several local newscasters and more Vikings players than you can shake a stick at, but major authors who live in the area are mostly found in either adjacent suburbs or in the cities proper. No authors here that I know of). So, yeah, that was kind of exciting.
