Oct. 18th, 2009 08:24 pmI'm really, stupidly excited about the Astro Boy movie that's coming out this Friday. The reasonable part of my brain is yelling at me to chill out, since it will probably not be all that good. (Case in point: they cast Nicholas Cage as Dr. Tenma — who on earth thought he'd be a good voice actor?) It then presents as evidence me being totally freaked out — in a bad way — by the creepy promo during the American League championship. Astro Boy just…hovered there with his rocket boots (feet? It's been awhile since I read/watched the series) for a really unnervingly long time. Not doing anything. Just hovering by the score box. And blinking at slightly-too-long intervals.
Then the part of my brain that is secretly an eleven year old boy goes, "You're dumb, badly thought-out advertisements don't tell you anything. It's Astro Boy. It'll be awesome by default."
Reasonable part of my brain responds, "Just because you loved it in one version doesn't mean you'll love it in another. Remember the Myst books?"
"Shut up."
"The Kingdom Hearts manga?"
"I said, shut up."
"The Rocky and Bullwinkle movie?"
"Not listening…"
"THE MARIO BROTHERS MOVIE?!"
"LA LA LA NOT LISTENING!"
