Feb. 18th, 2007 12:19 amI'm trying this new no-knead bread recipe. It sounds really nifty, although I think that it won't be quite as satisfying as making bread the usual way — kneading is my favorite part. And there's this perverse part of me that likes horribly involved bread recipes. I made this Italian loaf once that practically needed to be babysat for five hours. When it was all done, after all the fussing about and turning and shaping and skeptical poking in a, "is it supposed to be like this?" fashion, I felt like I had really accomplished something. It was good bread, too.
I also picked up the first volume of Hikaru no Go from the library last week. It was one of those, "Oh, what the heck, this will probably suck, but people seem to like it so I shall try it," sort of things. 'Cuz, honestly, it's about Go. That's like saying, "Hey, I found this totally awesome comic book, and it's about these guys who play chess! It's so cool!" But it's actually pretty good, much to my surprise. It's not quite good enough to take over chunks of my brain (Bleach does that for brief periods after I get a new volume), but it's good enough that I'm half-tempted to haul out the Go set that's sitting in the den and see if anyone wants to play. :) If nothing else, it's a good series to get hooked on in my case because it's not super-popular like Naruto or Death Note, so I can just go in and check out the volumes without having to queue up for a reserve.
