If you haven't seen Pacific Rim yet, GO. It completely lives up to all the promise of a kaiju movie with giant mecha and thensome. The cast is AMAZING, the characters are well done, and I was thoroughly impressed by the action scenes, as I have been seeing way too many action movies lately that are such a mush of CGI stuff blowing up that it all looks very exciting but I have no idea what's going on. That was not a problem here in the least. I loved the kaiju and Jaeger designs, loved the detail that went into it all — I was sucked in by the sort of Space Shuttle aesthetics of the US crew's suits and how in the early scenes, the equipment all looked like it was shiny and new a couple years ago but has been seeing heavy use since then. Overall, it's just what I wanted from a summer Hollywood blockbuster action movie.
Oh! And stay for a bit once the credits start. There's a fun little bonus scene before the scrolling-type credits start that's well worth the wait.

I feel there is a lot of room for people to explore Pentecost and Mako's father - daughter relationship, or the development of the Jeagers, or hell, even why they didn't just park some nukes at the rift and set them off as the Kaiju came through. It's really just lovely.
