Apparently getting borderline heat exhaustion was just enough for some sort of stomach bug to go, "Ha ha ha! Now, while her defenses are down! Attack!" Cue me missing the rest of the week at work. *facepalm*

I'm feeling more human now, though. Mostly. Hopefully I'll be able to take advantage of my (pre-scheduled) three-day weekend to do…something. Something more productive at any rate than watch lots and lots of Baccano and Doctor Who, while sipping ginger tea.

Speaking of Baccano, if you can stomach Tarantino-esque levels of animated violence (there was a string of about three episodes where I was cringing and hiding my eyes on a regular basis), and can deal with the fact that there are three storylines running simultaneously with no obvious link between any of them until a few episodes in, and no real main character, it's a really good series — good enough that I ended up watching the whole thing this week.

I still liked Durarara better (the same author wrote the light novel series that both Baccano and Durarara were based on), which I realize puts me in a minority. But I think some of that is just because the early '30s New York setting was done so well that I found it really jarring at first to hear Japanese coming out of everyone's mouths. (yes, there is a dub, and I hear it's really good, but I only had old fansubs on hand. I'm probably going to buy the DVD set if I can find it anywhere other than Amazon for a semi-reasonable price. Actually, strike that. I'm definitely getting the DVD set. Because this series would benefit from a second watching and my moral code is against watching fansubs for more than one run-through if the series is available for purchase in the US). Also, the aforementioned Tarantino levels of animated violence isn't quite my cup of tea. Since the plot(s) revolve around a quest for an elixir for immortality, and since a decent portion of the cast has drunk said elixir, there's a lot of people dying (and undying) in nasty and violent ways. On the other hand, there's Issac and Miria, who rather balance it out with their shenanigans.

Also, regarding Doctor Who, dang, Ten was kind of a jerk, wasn't he?
