Apr. 16th, 2011 03:10 pmIn Panera Bread, using the internets since the tubes at home are clogged. Or something. I thought it'd be quiet this time of the afternoon — who the heck eats at 2:30 in the afternoon? — but I was apparently mistaken. The corner I chose to sit in is apparently home today to the German Mother Club. Three moms, six kids under the age of four, all speaking German. The moms are in one booth, and the kids (those old enough to walk) have climbed over to (and all over) the next booth, where, best as I can tell, one of them is attempting to institute a game of "house," but the others are having none of it.
I'm getting nothing done at all, since the part of my brain that still wants to be a linguistics major is trying to listen to the kids, who are sort of hilarious, if completely ill-behaved for a restaurant. I'm pretty sure by the time I leave, I will have learned how to say, "Don't climb on the table!" in German.
