Buggre Alle this for a Larke
Sep. 25th, 2010 07:31 pmOn the one hand, I guess I should be flattered that my supervisor thinks that I'm responsible enough to handle being zone captain (i.e. being in charge of the map and all address/property boundary corrections therein) of what is being universally regarded as the crappiest zone in the entire Islip quarantine.
On the other hand, I really, really hate this zone. Pretty much the entire thing is an incredibly sketchy industrial area, with nasty guard dogs, fences which may or may not correspond to actual property lines, piles of junk everywhere, and an average of about three map corrections per block (vs. about three map corrections per zone of maybe a half square mile). I think I kind of startled everyone yesterday when, after dealing with property boundary and ownership issues on every property we'd been to so far, and then finding that the property we were currently on seemed to have been surveyed already, contrary to the map, I snapped. "I say screw it. The property's already been done, who cares how or when. Let's move on."
Since I have a bit of a reputation for being the quiet, unassertive one, this was met with a surprised, "Whoa, she's taking charge!" I count that as a mark towards just how exasperated I am with this zone captaincy, because I only let that meek facade crack when I'm in a situation that I detest so much that I'm willing to do anything to speed my way out of it, including being a bit of a bitch.
