Oct. 28th, 2009 07:35 pmGood grief. Thank you, criminals of Long Island, for making my job just that much more interesting.
Some of us at the office have been wondering why the heck one of the GOVs (government vehicles) was taking so long to get back from the mechanic. We found out today that it's because someone swiped the plates off the GOV, stuck them on another vehicle, and then stole the second vehicle. Pretty stupid, if you ask me, since the federal plates stick out like a sore thumb, but I don't think people who do that sort of stuff are the brightest crayons in the box anyway.
And then, in the area we just happen to be surveying right now, there was a series of burglaries where the guys would knock on the door, say they were from the town or something, and then force their way in. Since we have to go from house to house, knocking on doors to get people's permission so we can check the trees in their yards, you can guess the sort of reactions we're getting.
