Job musings

After sleeping on it, I realized that I'm pretty uneasy with some elements of the Dworshak Reservoir job, namely the whole being out all by myself in the wilderness bit. So I called them back yesterday, apologized, and said that I would need more time to think about it and also that I did have a few other job offers, which is quite true. I have an interview in about an hour, over-the-phone again since the job's in southeastern Wisconsin.

Kind of odd that almost all the jobs/internships I'm applying for are out-of-state. Idaho, Vermont, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Florida, Pennsylvania.... okay, there was one job that actually would have kept me in the Twin Cities, but I didn't get that one, probably because I was my usual inarticulate self at the interview (X in "What's Eating You" is frighteningly close to the way I behave around people I don't know). And there's another job that's in central Minnesota, but they won't even start reviewing resumes until the 22nd, by which point I might already have something else lined up.

I'm so glad that I took Intro to GIS and Field Botany last semester. Being able to use a GPS receiver, use ArcView (a mapmaking program used in conjunction with GPS) and identify plants are probably the most marketable skills I have right now for the sort of work I'd like to do.
