Sidewalks are for wimps!
Mar. 29th, 2005 12:12 amToday I journeyed to the magical land of Arden Hills, where the streets have no sidewalks. If I had a car, this would not be a problem. I, however, am carless, and the nearest bus stop was about a mile away from where I needed to go. Note to self: When walking across a highway bridge that does not have a sidewalk, make sure you're on the left side of the road first.
I eventually reached my destination of the Bethel Seminary Library. It was a bit of an odd experience, as I was the only female patron that I saw in the entire library, and I felt underdressed. I've never felt underdressed for a library before, but all the guys there were of the polo shirt and khakis variety, while I walked in wearing my well-worn jeans and my "Computer Bug" t-shirt (it has a picture of a circuit-covered VW Beetle on the front). Also, being a seminary, there were quite a few crosses and other Christian symbols here and there, which made me, a lifelong Jodo-Shinshu Buddhist, feel even more out of place. Fortunately, I did find what I needed, took the necessary notes, and managed not to get lost on the way back to the bus stop. Now I just need to write the paper I went through all that trouble for …
