Jul. 7th, 2005 09:24 pmWow. I'm living in a bit of a news vacuum out here (no TV reception, no regular newspaper, no NPR or similarly news-inclined radio stations unless I want to listen to The Highly Conservative And Opinionated Station--which I don't), but I just spent the last half-hour or so on http://news.bbc.co.uk. I heard briefly about the London bombings on the hourly news blurb on one of the musically-inclined radio stations that we can receive, and I made a tiny "oh, my" sound, but didn't get to catch up on the details until now.
It feels odd depending on the internet for my primary news source for an major event. I haven't relied on the TV for news in years--I didn't have one all through college, and even before then I was an avid newspaper reader--but not having newspaper or radio, which got me through 9/11, the advent of the war on Iraq, the 2004 elections, and countless other events is really odd for me. I look at things differently on the internet, and I'm a lot less likely to encounter things that I don't actively seek out with this medium than any of the others I've mentioned, which makes me worry that I might be missing some interesting stuff.
On a completely random and unrelated note, I have been informed that, in our Park Service uniforms (which we wore for the first time on Monday--we're usually out in the field where we don't have to look nice for the public), Aterisk looks like "a real ranger," but I look like "a scientist lady."
