Jun. 23rd, 2005 07:14 pmAttempted to catch up on all that's happened with the Rockman/Mega Man folks at Sages since I started my prolonged absence (I am very much in the closet about my involvement in the Blue Bomber's fandom, and I doubt my coworkers/housemates, who are often still in the office while I'm on the computer, would look too favorably on someone who moonlights as a robot who looks like he's ten years old and can turn his arms into plasma cannons). Got overwhelmed by the number of new characters that have joined, and gave up.
I attempted to make my mom's chicken-and-broccoli stirfry last night. I'm amazed it even turned out edible at all, what with my poor choice of pan size (too small), the fact that the knife was dull enough that I ended up mutilating the chicken rather than cutting it into evenly-sized pieces, general issues with where to set things so I wouldn't knock them over, and the fact that I no less than three times kept thinking I was done with one of the measuring spoons and kept tossing it in the sink to be washed. Oh, and the adventure of opening the oyster sauce (or oyster-flavored sauce, since I couldn't find the good stuff out here). Apparently some genius designed it so that it had a bottle cap underneath the plastic screw-on lid. I didn't have a bottle opener, and the metal cap was on really tight. So this led to a lot of swearing and use of various kitchen utensils and surfaces to try and lever the frelling thing off.
Then, as I'm trying to clean up the mess I made of the stove (did I mention that I managed to get the rice to boil over, too? I can bake pretty well, but I'm not so good when I need to use the stovetop), my roommate walks in and says, "Mmm, it always smells so good when you cook." She received a bewildered, "thanks," from me, though no offer of food, since, as I had found out, oyster-flavored sauce has several times the salt in it as the oyster sauce I'm used to using, and the stir-fry was edible, but very salty. Not quite sure what brought on her comment, since I haven't made anything too aromatic since I got here (aside from that interesting attempt at combining garlic and scrambled eggs, and namasu dressing, which smells mostly like vinegar and not particularly yummy). Maybe she was referring to the bread I made last weekend? All this talk of food is making me hungry. I need to go and eat.

Date: 2005-06-24 11:31 pm (UTC)That's probably a good idea. I started back when there were only like five Mega Man characters, so you actually *could* keep track of everyone. Not anymore, it seems, unless you have a ton of time on your hands.
