I took the last half of last week off and traveled hither (upstate NY), tither (NYC), and yon (Fire Island), getting out of the bubble I've been in and playing tourist in a way I haven't done in far too long. Saw lotsa cool stuff — Franklin D. Roosevelt's home (actually his mom's home — she owned it 'till her death in 1941), Eleanor Roosevelt's place at Val-Kill, a summer "cottage" owned by the Vanderbilts, the crazy fancy state capitol building and mazelike underground tunnels nearby, a freaking space shuttle at the Intrepid Air and Space Museum, and then I capped it off with a day at the Sunken Forest (not actually underwater but still a very unique ecological oddity) and the nearby beach.

I also watched all the Doctor Who, or at least all the Doctor Who that is in the third series, in an attempt to get as caught up as I could before last Saturday's start of the new series. There was an unfortunate side effect there for awhile where my internal monologue sounded a bit like David Tennant, but fortunately that's gone now. I really liked that series — the Master was brilliant, and I finally found out where "wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey" and "goes ding when there's stuff" came from. Also, I have no idea why so much of the fandom seems to dislike Martha so much, as I rather liked her. I especially liked how she was able to sort of take a step back, go, "Okay, I do really, really like the Doctor, but the feeling's not mutual, at least not in that way, and rather than mess up my life pining futilely, I'm going to go on and live my own life."

As for the new episode, as River would say, 'Spoilers!' )

I will say that I totally cracked up at the end scene with a giant roomful of Daleks all shouting the show's title, and not just because I still think that Daleks' voices sound really funny. Also, all the adverts for the next episode promise "dinosaurs on a spaceship," which is either going to be awesome or just awesomely stupid.
