Jan. 3rd, 2009 01:34 pmI'm back and in one piece! Note to self: Do not be off your prescription allergy meds while flying unless you like the sensation of nails being driven into your sinuses.
I got a bunch of good stuff for Christmas — some really excellent tea, the first season of Freakazoid, a new bread cookbook — but one of the best ones was "The Great Amurkian Novel" the Yuletide story that I received from Frostfire. It's from "Twice Upon a Time," this crazy, obscure, diamond-in-the-rough animated movie from the '80s (you can see it here). The story's a brilliant follow-up to the movie.
I wrote "Deck the Malls, a Dead Like Me fic where George, Daisy, and Mason have to collect souls at the Woodside Mall on Black Friday. I'm not entirely sure what it is about Yuletide that makes me write in first-person present tense, but there you go. Oddly enough, I didn't even sign up for "Dead Like Me," but I discovered that I really, really can't write Captain Hammer in character, and my previous knowledge of the series plus watching about a season and a half of "Dead Like Me" in a couple of weeks gave me something that I think? I hope? is at least decent.
And if you're not familiar with "Dead Like Me," it's a really good series. It's out on DVD, and I was able to find it though the local library system.
