Feb. 10th, 2006 12:31 amWell, I finally went and moved "Fred," my Mac Plus, off of my desk and over to the shelving unit with the other outdated computer equipment my family owns (dot matrix printer, 14K modem, etc.). My back's started to do funny things in response to me trying to use Fred Jr., my iMac, on the floor. I feel kind of bad, though. Fred was my first computer--I got him for $50 in 7th grade. Yes, he's twenty years old, and yes, he lacks a lot of things that my newer computer has (things like an internal hard drive and a color monitor). But I still feel bad about it. He wasn't a bad little computer. Heck, I even managed to jury-rig him to run System 7, which every single book I've read says you're not supposed to be able to do (For non-Apple geeks, system 7 was state of the art in the early '90s). And I'd never have to worry about filling up the 40 MB hard drive I hooked up to him, while 7 GB seems hardly enough for my newer computer. I know I haven't really used Fred at all in the last five years, but I still feel bad about demoting him like this.
