Awkwardness for everybody!
Apr. 14th, 2012 09:42 pmI spent a good deal of last week and Easter Sunday playing hostess to my parental units, who I love dearly but who I am also glad live halfway across the country, because they are exhausting to deal with.
Actually, they were quite well-behaved on this trip. No fighting, minimal passive-aggressiveness, pleasant wanderings around Montauk and the Brooklyn Botanic Garden (cherry blossoms!) … in fact, if it weren't for Easter Dinner, I'd have said it all went off without a hitch.
Unfortunately, my stepmom spent the entire meal trying to hook me up with the waiter at the restaurant we were eating at. I don't think I've used that teenage "you are the most embarassing people on earth, why must I be in public with you" tone in over a decade, but I brought it out. She was oblivious. It was all massively awkward, and I was kind of glad that they left for Minnesota very soon afterward.
